Why Online Chess…

Chess is a game of pattern recognition, so the more patterns you are shown, the faster you will improve. Online chess teaching allows students to see upwards of 10x the amount of puzzles within an hour. Try to visualize an instructor setting up a puzzle on a chessboard, then trying to get the student’s attention, then explaining the pattern to look for. That is a process that takes a lot of time. By having chess lessons online, I can instantly provide the students with the next puzzle, not have to focus on getting the kid’s attention again and speed up their improvement. Additionally, on the interactive analysis board, I am able to highlight squares and draw arrows. These visual cues are extremely helpful for chess development. It allows the students to follow multiple ideas and to really visualize what I am trying to teach them.

I am a strong believer that kids need to interact with other kids in person, and we will have monthly meetups to accomplish that. By blending the meetups with online instruction, the kids will have the best of both worlds. They will get the social element which is important, while improving at chess as quickly as possible. The online tools make for a much better learning experience, and I know you’ll agree once you give it a chance.

Why Ryan Phillips Chess

Ryan Phillips Chess is a great place to learn chess for any skill level. The lessons are held via chess.com and Zoom, so that students can communicate as well as follow the chess lesson online. It is a completely interactive approach, where students will be asked questions to make sure they are following along. They are encouraged to make mistakes and to have fun! Chess has been going strong for hundreds and years, and it’s still growing. By learning chess, students are learning how to think critically, how to think for themselves and how to learn from prior decisions in order to make better ones in the future. I am excited to begin working with your child, and I know that together, they will build a chess foundation that will allow them to excel as much as they choose to. I look forward to getting started!
